Dear Jim,
I happened across your blog while playing on the internet.
I own three Missouri Foxtrotters, don’t live in Missouri, and frankly
have lost 99% of my interest in the Association, its shows and breed
practice.
Here are my dislikes:
- Association sees itself as a state association and all other states
being non important or threatening of the old guard
- Shows are fixed and this is open knowledge. Why show if good old
boy and girl are pre ordained to win?
- Common breed practices. I disagree with:
- Ginger up a horse’s butt to make it lift its tail
- Baby oil in the ears to make it flop its ears
- Chains on their ankles - to make them trot
I agree with you that marketing of the breed is horrible. I used to
have quarterhorses, but MFT are far superior when it comes to
disposition and pleasure to ride.
I also agree with you that exhibiting in horse expos and via the
internet is the way to go. I am a long-time reader of Western
horseman and think ads in their magazine or on their web site are a
good idea. The RF channel on Television would be a good place for a
30-minute show on MFT.
Thank you for letting me voice my opinion.

Seems like this MFT owner knows more about promotion and marketing than some MEMBERS OF THE BOD.
