Sage Brings Happiness

In a soap opera story, Sage is now leased to a very nice woman at Pine Dell.  Sage's new mom has two twin 16 year old daughters with horses at Pine Dell.  They work very hard for their horse's cost.  They clean stalls, feed, water and now they have been promoted to riding instructors under supervision.  They take Monday night group lessons from Jenny and I ride in that lesson too. They are the best!  Mom has faithfully come to all their lessons.  She works at Pine Dell in the summer to…

Nova’s Notebook – Birth Event 2004!

Nova was born in 2004.  I was attached to her legs when she came out.  I've been attached to her ever since in many ways! I slept in the barn for two weeks.  I slept in the tack room hiding from Sage.  I had a camera and the TV was at my bed in the tack room.  It was cold at night. That's when God whispered to me these words, "electric blanket."  Oh how wonderful that was!  I was teaching a class at work.  I would come in shined up…

JR’s Journal- JR the Tall is a Guard Horse

May 27, 2003  I was out in the pasture yesterday. The horses were across the lake. I walked way over there to see them and to trim some nasty saplings growing around the lake. The dogs came with me...as they always do. Cricket, our black dog, just got her 25lbs of hair removed in her yearly summer trim. She turned into a small short haired dog with a cute little bandana. JR saw me and started walking towards me to say HI. Then he started running to me. "WOW," I thought, "He's…

JR’s Journal – A lot of Excitement in Learning How To Stop

I was going to ride JR at home and was doing the pre flight check up.  He did his version of the bucking bronco.  He has no suspension when he bucks.  It just looks like a rocking chair canter with the head down!  This went on for a while.  Then the wind came up and the rain clouds approached.  I decided this was not the time for valor!  We loaded up and went over to Pine Dell. Well, the arena was being used for turn out for a weanling and…

Velvet – Mohair Cinch disaster

I got a 100% mohair cinch handmade by a woman in Utah! I put it on my saddle and away I rode in the lesson. We were cantering circles and I felt that my saddle was loose. I mentioned that to Jenny after that round of cantering. I've had that feeling before with my neoprene girth. My turn to canter in circles again. I was on the wall and felt my saddle go...no bringing it back! I pulled Velvet really close to the corregated metal arena wall and leaned against it…
