Susan and Velvet – Parelli 2009 Spotlight Blue Ribbon

The reining demonstration is pretty cool. At the end when we run down the arena preparing to do a slide stop, I open the umbrella and it turns inside out! Our Dressage demonstration is highlighted by a "dressage hat" I found at a toy store and really cool dressage moves. We do leg yields at flat foot walk and canter - that means we travel diagonally across the arena. Velvet also does her rocking chair canter-naturally. If we have time, we do drop to a trot lead changes. It's…

Velvet & Susan – Reserve Women and Horses Expo Versatility Winner

Velvet and Susan - Versatility Challenge! View us on youtube! “Women and Horses Expo” in Sedalia is what I heard from another horse person. I found the web side and Whoa…a three day Versatility Challenge event! Versatility is my middle name, so I clicked on the link. and it seemed to have Susan and Velvet written all over it. The third day event was particularly interesting…free style! We each had 4 minutes to do our own thing on Sunday. Entertainment, costumes, and your own music was highly encouraged. That is…

Velvet and Susan attain (original) Level 3 in Pat Parelli Program!

FIRST MISSOURI FOX TROTTER ATTAINS ADVANCED STATUS IN PARELLI PROGRAM  The Parelli program is modeled after Martial Arts program (Judo) with the different colored belts to signify the status. Each level has from 20 up to 53 tasks that must be assessed by a certified Parelli instructor in person or via videotape. Velvet and Susan had to be assessed on 53 tasks in Level 3.  Most of the tasks seem simple, but none…

Velvet – Flying Lead Changes

This is a post from the woman (me) who had given up on FLC as Velvet would never do them consistently...in 5 years. This is a post from the woman (me) who was shocked to discover that Velvet had passed the L2 Flying Change Lead task the other day while in a group lesson. Here's a another shocker:  I decided to work on the L3 task...counter canter. You must canter once around an arena or area in a counter canter. Velvet has been making great improvement in her ability to counter canter. Last…

Velvet – Mohair Cinch disaster

I got a 100% mohair cinch handmade by a woman in Utah! I put it on my saddle and away I rode in the lesson. We were cantering circles and I felt that my saddle was loose. I mentioned that to Jenny after that round of cantering. I've had that feeling before with my neoprene girth. My turn to canter in circles again. I was on the wall and felt my saddle go...no bringing it back! I pulled Velvet really close to the corregated metal arena wall and leaned against it…
