{"id":1459,"date":"2011-02-12T19:42:46","date_gmt":"2011-02-13T01:42:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mofoxtrot.com\/viewpoint\/?p=1459"},"modified":"2011-02-12T19:48:49","modified_gmt":"2011-02-13T01:48:49","slug":"nova-is-a-blessing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mofoxtrot.com\/viewpoint\/nova-is-a-blessing\/","title":{"rendered":"Nova is a Blessing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Snow in Missouri.\u00a0 Stacks and stacks of it.\u00a0 My truck and trailer have been buried.\u00a0 I forgot how to ride a horse in six weeks.<\/p>\n<p>This was a big day.\u00a0 I got the truck and trailer out of the snow drifts.\u00a0 Now to get the horse out of the barn.\u00a0 There&#8217;s still a foot of snow out there and it&#8217;s hard to walk thru.<\/p>\n<p>I tried to open the barn door. Drat, the cord that hangs on the door was buried in 3&#8243; of ice.\u00a0 I hacked and hacked with a shovel\u00a0to get that cord loose.\u00a0 I raised up the barn door only to find another door piece stuck under the ice.<\/p>\n<p>I gave that up.<\/p>\n<p>I led Nova into the tack room and out the human door.\u00a0 Dripping water was making noises, but she was OK in tack room.\u00a0 We found a bag of horse treats and had a good time with those.<\/p>\n<p>Next out the door where my tractor is stuck. Well a hose broke and that hose is very important to forwards and backwards on the tractor.\u00a0 Nova just took the tractor in stride.<\/p>\n<p>I have a narrow path where I walk and we have to pass by the tractor with the round bale spike on the back.\u00a0 Nova walked in the snow and I walked in the path.\u00a0 Usually she gets somewhat excited to leave the other horses, but she was calm today.\u00a0 That was good because my footing was tricky slick. \u00a0 She was very interested in staying with me.\u00a0 It might have been because we stopped every now and then and she got a treat!<\/p>\n<p>We made it to a wider gravel path where I could walk freely.\u00a0 We made it to the trailer.\u00a0 It had some frozen spots of ice on the floor by the door, but that didn&#8217;t bother Nova at all.<\/p>\n<p>She loaded and we left home.\u00a0 I got to ride today in a lesson with <a href=\"http:\/\/forthehorse.org\">Tony Vaught<\/a>!\u00a0 We learned a lot.\u00a0 Nova and I have lots of homework. We have seven days of forecast without snow.\u00a0 I&#8217;m going to be riding now!<\/p>\n<p>The big arena at Pine Dell Farm\u00a0has mirrors in the back now. When Nova and I were leaving, I decided she should &#8220;see herself&#8221; for the first time!<\/p>\n<p>She was mighty interested too.\u00a0 She fogged up the mirror trying to smell herself!
