{"id":1688,"date":"2011-11-27T18:00:13","date_gmt":"2011-11-28T00:00:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mofoxtrot.com\/viewpoint\/2011\/11\/sunset-with-lucky-star\/"},"modified":"2017-07-29T21:47:38","modified_gmt":"2017-07-30T02:47:38","slug":"sunset-with-lucky-star","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mofoxtrot.com\/viewpoint\/sunset-with-lucky-star\/","title":{"rendered":"Sunset with Lucky Star"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"margin: 0 0 10px 0; padding: 0; font-size: 0.8em; line-height: 1.6em;\"><a title=\"Sunset with Lucky Star\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/susanfxtrt\/6414813925\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm8.staticflickr.com\/7023\/6414813925_684c657f63.jpg\" alt=\"Sunset with Lucky Star by susanfxtrt\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<span style=\"margin: 0;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/susanfxtrt\/6414813925\/\"><\/a><\/span><\/div>\n<p>Here&#8217;s what I love about Lucky Star:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>His confidence<\/li>\n<li>His calmness &#8211; which relates to confidence<\/li>\n<li>His left brain &#8211; which is really #1 and #2<\/li>\n<li>His impulsion &#8211; on the low side.\u00a0 I love a horse that would rather stop than bolt.\u00a0 It&#8217;s easy to speed a horse up, but if they bolt out of the blue, that makes me a grumpy (terrified) horse woman.\u00a0 Ok, maybe this is all connect to #1, #2, and #3 above.<\/li>\n<li>He is playful, but not too much.\u00a0 His brain isn&#8217;t going 100 mph thinking about the entire world and how he can play with it.\u00a0 His nose doesn&#8217;t beat my hand to an object.\u00a0 I get to touch and object without there being a horse nose in the way.<\/li>\n<li>I&#8217;ve seen him go right brained and he freezes.\u00a0 See #4.\u00a0 I love a horse that doesn&#8217;t get scared and bolt.\u00a0 Today during our lesson, a neighbor started up a Johnny Popper tractor. For some reason, that bothered him and he went right brained.\u00a0 We played the squeeze game around a barrel to get over it.<\/li>\n<li>His fox trot &#8211; completely natural and he&#8217;s got a reach with those front legs.\u00a0 He&#8217;s going to be smooth to ride and we will be looking fabulous.<\/li>\n<li>His canter &#8211; same lead with both front and hind legs.\u00a0 Finding the canter on a gaited horse is a happy occasion.\u00a0 Finding a smooth canter is fabulous<\/li>\n<li>He comes to me and follows me at liberty.\u00a0 That means I can let him loose and he will follow me all over the arena.\u00a0 I can have him round around the run pen and then I can tell him to come to me.\u00a0 He does it.\u00a0 Pretty cool for the short time I&#8217;ve had him<\/li>\n<li>His trust and willingness to try what I want him to do.\u00a0 See #1 etc above.<\/li>\n<li>I love mares, but having a gelding is a whole lot of darn fun.\u00a0 I get to be the dominant mare most of the time with Lucky Star.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>We are playing the Parelli Seven Games at Pine Dell Farm.\u00a0 If you see me there, ask me how he got his name!\u00a0 I love telling his story!<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin: 0 0 10px 0; padding: 0; font-size: 0.8em; line-height: 1.6em;\"><span style=\"margin: 0;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here&#8217;s what I love about Lucky Star: His confidence His calmness &#8211; which relates to confidence His left brain &#8211; which is really #1 and #2 His impulsion &#8211; on the low side.\u00a0 I love a horse that would rather stop than bolt.\u00a0 It&#8217;s easy to speed a horse up, but if they bolt out of the blue, that makes me a grumpy (terrified) horse woman.\u00a0 Ok, maybe this is all connect to #1, #2, and #3 above.
