{"id":298,"date":"2008-10-11T19:42:44","date_gmt":"2008-10-12T00:42:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mofoxtrot.com\/viewpoint\/?p=298"},"modified":"2017-09-11T17:40:25","modified_gmt":"2017-09-11T22:40:25","slug":"novas-notebook-humbling-trailer-loading","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mofoxtrot.com\/viewpoint\/novas-notebook-humbling-trailer-loading\/","title":{"rendered":"Nova&#8217;s Notebook &#8211; Humbling Trailer Loading!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yep, that&#8217;s what horses do!<\/p>\n<p>I took Nova on her on her first trail ride today at James A Reed Park.\u00a0 Hope was kind enough to ride with me.\u00a0 When we first\u00a0arrived at the park,\u00a0a woman came over ..enthralled with Nova&#8217;s beauty.\u00a0 Of course I bragged about her just a smidgeon.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>For the record, Nova did great on the trail.\u00a0 Hope and Jazz were good partners to start my trail riding experience with Nova!<\/p>\n<p>The woman\u00a0was still there when we got back..still enthralled. So, I couldn&#8217;t resist bragging. I have both Velvet&#8217;s ribbons and Nova&#8217;s Celebration ribbons hanging in the horse trailer.\u00a0 I opened the door and gestured to the ribbons..some of them <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">were<\/span> Nova&#8217;s. But I didn&#8217;t tell the woman that.\u00a0 Of course she assumed all the ribbons were Nova&#8217;s. I&#8217;ll never see this woman again..what could it hurt.\u00a0 I would guess that I might have sinned a bit here.<\/p>\n<p>We got the saddle off and had our treats.\u00a0 I rubbed\u00a0Nova&#8217;s wet back&#8230;.chat chat chat with the woman.\u00a0 I was feeling pretty smug.<\/p>\n<p>Then I bragged\u00a0&#8220;Now you are going to see what trailer loading should be like!&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0I\u00a0lined Nova up wiht the trailer door, pointed and threw my rope over her back as she started to get into the trailer.\u00a0\u00a0Then Nova backed out and refused to\u00a0get into the trailer.\u00a0\u00a0 For the first time in forever, she balked at walking into the trailer.\u00a0 I couldn&#8217;t believe it.\u00a0 It took me about 10 &#8211; 15 minutes to load her while the woman stood there and watched me.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She told me that I should give Nova\u00a0a verbal command to get into the trailer.\u00a0&#8220;LOAD UP&#8221;, I said. \u00a0Of course I did this with great tolerance.\u00a0 We laughed at how well that worked.\u00a0 Then the woman suggested I get into the trailer with a scoop of grain to bribe her in.\u00a0 I just love suggestions when loading my own horse in her own trailer&#8230;NOT!<br \/>\nI only seethed a little bit&#8230;after all, I was being humbled.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0This time I chatted about patience, not loosing your temper\u00a0and being ready to spend two days loading\u00a0a horse into the trailer!<\/p>\n<p>You should never brag about your horse because they know then exactly how to humble you.\u00a0Maybe you shouldn&#8217;t mislead people about how many ribbons your horse won.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Horses Humble People!\u00a0 Nova finally did relent and let us return home.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Next DAY at James A Reed Park<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I discovered the woman is a volunteer at the park because she came out right as I pulled in today.\u00a0 She told the woman I was with today all about the trailer loading episode yesterday. She did say that she learned much about patience, so that was positive.<br \/>\nThat woman will probably be there everytime I pull into the park on<br \/>\nweekends. Maybe it&#8217;s a good thing hunting season is looking us in the<br \/>\nface.<\/p>\n<p>grrrrr<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yep, that&#8217;s what horses do!
