{"id":378,"date":"2001-03-30T22:42:02","date_gmt":"2001-03-31T04:42:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mofoxtrot.com\/viewpoint\/?p=378"},"modified":"2010-09-20T22:42:21","modified_gmt":"2010-09-21T03:42:21","slug":"sage-over-a-barrel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mofoxtrot.com\/viewpoint\/sage-over-a-barrel\/","title":{"rendered":"Sage Over a Barrel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<div>\n<table border=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\" width=\"580\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>\u00a0<\/td>\n<td>\u00a0March 30, \u00a02001<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td colspan=\"2\">As her reward for being the first Missouri Fox Trotter to pass the Parelli level 2 test, I gave Sage almost a two year break.\u00a0 She got to be the step mommy to JR and raise him.\u00a0 I rode Velvet in the meantime.Unfortunately, Sage chose to fill her stomach about three times as large as it should be.\u00a0 She got terribly fat on the lush Missouri grass.\u00a0 It&#8217;s time for me to reclaim Sage back as a great pal and riding horse.\u00a0 Accordingly, in the spring of 2001, Sage went to Pine Dell and has become a pasture horse.\u00a0 It&#8217;s my goal to ride her almost daily for fun and to substitute that triple<br \/>\nstomach with hard lean muscle.I rode her in a group lesson one night.\u00a0 One of our goals was to jump over two orange traffic barrels laid end to end.\u00a0 Well, Sage has never really enjoyed jumping.\u00a0 She will jump barrels and poles while I&#8217;m on the ground directing her.\u00a0 Now that she is fat and out of shape, she really doesn&#8217;t want to jump barrels.\u00a0 However, the goal during the lesson was to jump.<\/p>\n<p>Sage and I ran over to the barrels and screeched to a halt.\u00a0 She daintily tried to pick her way through the barrels.\u00a0 I sat and urged her on.\u00a0 I urged her on.\u00a0 Again, I urged her on.\u00a0 I looked down at the barrel\u2026one of them had disappeared.\u00a0 I could see small orange patches sticking out from under her legs.\u00a0 I looked around at the rest of the group.\u00a0 They all were staring at me with expressions of great concern.\u00a0 It was then that I realized that I must have a problem.\u00a0\u00a0 I didn&#8217;t know what it was.\u00a0 Jenny was starting to ask me how to get out of my predicament.\u00a0 I said, go forward!\u00a0 Jenny quickly said, &#8220;Don&#8217;t ask her to go forward!&#8221;\u00a0 I took a quick look at the group&#8217;s collective low level alarmed expression.<\/p>\n<p>At the other end of the arena taking a lesson were green riders.
