{"id":6061,"date":"2019-11-21T16:24:36","date_gmt":"2019-11-21T22:24:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mofoxtrot.com\/viewpoint\/?p=6061"},"modified":"2021-01-16T19:16:55","modified_gmt":"2021-01-17T01:16:55","slug":"best-group-lesson-ever","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mofoxtrot.com\/viewpoint\/best-group-lesson-ever\/","title":{"rendered":"Best Group Lesson Ever"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Quote of the day:  \u201cI can no longer tell people watching Fancy and I ride that Fancy was ruined at her colt start.\u201d\u00a0 No one would believe me.\u00a0\u00a0<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Highlight words from Erin Patterson during the group lesson of November 20th, 2019:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThat fox trot is perfect!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLook, she isn\u2019t arguing!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHey!&nbsp;&nbsp;Fancy looks like a Performance Horse!\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;(I apologized).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While Fancy was doing a flat foot walk leg yield diagonally the long way of the arena Erin pronounced:&nbsp;&nbsp;\u201cThat is excellent. Look, her ears are flopping!\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;(That is wonderful for a Fox Trotter gait and especially amazing to me that her ears were relaxed while leg yielding.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Next was cantering.&nbsp;&nbsp;Fancy was doing more of a four beat pacy canter that feels unbalanced to the rider.&nbsp;&nbsp;I put \u201cfeel on the inside rein and fixed it.&nbsp;&nbsp;We had a bobble with back legs so I decided the answer was to go as fast as Fancy would go.&nbsp;&nbsp;Fancy flew around that arena!&nbsp;&nbsp;We also tried some flying lead changes (unsuccessful).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Later, I quizzed Erin on \u201cWere we galloping?\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;Erin responded, \u201cIt was a perfect hand gallop.&nbsp;&nbsp;Fancy went fast and was under control.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;I nearly fainted at such praise.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019ve had a fear of galloping for nearly 20 years.&nbsp;&nbsp;I might be able to be a barrel racer now.&nbsp;&nbsp;Unbelievable!&nbsp;&nbsp;Some of this fear erasing is my new rough-out Parelli saddle and my believe that Fancy will never bolt out of control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this group lesson I am incredibly honored to be allowed to ride with a ten year old beginning rider.&nbsp;&nbsp;Mia often rides a different horse in the lessons to make her even more of a gifted young rider.&nbsp;&nbsp;I was honored to demonstrate the canter while Erin was explaining a left and right lead.&nbsp;&nbsp;I was honored to demonstrate my leg cue and Fancy\u2019s body position in the canter \u201cask\u201d phase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mia is a wonderful student and talented young girl.&nbsp;&nbsp;I look forward to watching her develop her horsemanship under Erin\u2019s skillful guidance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"blob:https:\/\/mofoxtrot.com\/74e6d8f7-5f23-4fab-834b-79c845d5b3eb\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Sixty year difference between two of these riders!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>End of lesson day&#8230;new accomplishment the next day, 11\/21\/2019.  Fancy and I jumped the small size barrels at a canter.  We\u2019ve been jumping these barrels at a trot during the past year, but I\u2019ve been scared to try it at a canter.  I was thinking back to when when I learned that horses can jump higher at a canter than a trot.  I fell off Velvet long ago when I learned that!
