Group lesson minus one. \u00a0Erin stated she had thought of a new flying lead change pattern. \u00a0Oh Boy!<\/p>\n

We used the entire arena with cones placed where we would start to turn the corner. \u00a0Our warm up consisted me trying to get Fancy to not do a pacy flat foot walk. Erin explained the secret is to get her going in a fast enough walk with inside support rein.<\/p>\n

Easy Pattern Cones Set in arena corners, before horse starts to bend around the corner.<\/p>\n

Trot about midway on long side of arena.
\nTrot around short end of arena, past the corner cone
\nAsk for counter canter.
\nWhen entering the short end corner, just past the cone, ask for flying change
\nCanter to cone<\/p>\n

  1. \u00a0Trotted the length of the arena and slowed down around the corners. \u00a0We have cones marking where the gait change is to occur.<\/li>\n
  2. Counter canter length of the arena. \u00a0Slow down to walk around the short end.<\/li>\n
  3. \u00a0Erin explained the flying lead change portion.
    \na. \u00a0Counter canter, slow down to walk around corner. \u00a0On the next long length, start with counter canter and switch to flying lead change in the middle. Keep cantering around the corner and ask for flying lead change to inside leg. \u00a0Repeat.<\/li>\n

    Erin mounts and takes off in the most gorgeous flat foot walk I\u2019ve ever seen. \u00a0There is no sign of the pacy flat foot walk. \u00a0I\u2019m overcome with joy! \u00a0Erin and Fancy go around the corner and immediately go into a counter canter.<\/p>\n

    It was my turn and with some failures, all my fault, we got some.
    \nFancy and I have advanced from never getting a flying lead to getting more than 50%! \u00a0Huge! \u00a0(Erin is at 99.9% successful!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
