{"id":920,"date":"2008-01-13T21:43:35","date_gmt":"2008-01-14T03:43:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mofoxtrot.com\/viewpoint\/?p=920"},"modified":"2010-10-08T21:44:26","modified_gmt":"2010-10-09T02:44:26","slug":"920","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mofoxtrot.com\/viewpoint\/920\/","title":{"rendered":"Sue &#8211; How do You Change from Right Brain to Left Brain 100 times!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.angelfire.com\/mo2\/pinedell\/Sue\/index.album\/sunflower-ride-1st-real-trail-ride-summer-2007?i=10\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.angelfire.com\/mo2\/pinedell\/Sue\/thumbnails\/600x450\/Susan_and_Sue.jpg\" border=\"0\" alt=\"Sunflower Ride - 1st Real Trail ride -Summer 2007\" width=\"244\" height=\"450\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0positive wondrous\u00a0news is that I Sue and I went on a trail ride at the same place where she bolted, spilled her rider and became retraumatized fourteen months ago.\u00a0 On this\u00a0month, we had a wonderful ride.\u00a0 I was with a calm gelding and his calm owner.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\">My plan was for the gelding to lead and we would follow, thus getting more and more confidence.\u00a0 My plan was thwarted right at the get go when the gelding refused to lead.\u00a0 To get the gelding to go, my riding partner would have had to\u00a0raise her arms and swing the mecate\u00a0to get to phase three or four.\u00a0 We both knew this wasn&#8217;t a good idea with Sue.\u00a0 So Sue and I took the lead and never faltered except for one head-up startle.\u00a0 We had a good time, indeed.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\">The low was an Impulsion clinic this Saturday.\u00a0 We had eight riders in the arena. the riders made noise and some of them swung carrot sticks around.\u00a0 Rain was beating on the roof.\u00a0 In the three hour morning ride, Sue and I had at least 15 mini bolts down the rail and 50 skin-inside-out\u00a0flinches and at least 100 tense-up\/bolt-coming times.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\">I managed to relax enough\u00a0on the bolts so I could bend her instead of\u00a0knee-jerk reaction-pull-back on the reins.\u00a0That was a big plus for my emotional fitness.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Near the lunch break Jenny told me that usually Sue relaxes by now and it&#8217;s probably the rain that kept her tense.\u00a0 My good friend looked at me when Sue did her startle flinch and told me that she admired me for what I was doing.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\">It was then that my insides started to cry&#8230;.and then it was lunch time.\u00a0 I was so tired at lunchtime that I took a nap during a lecture that Jenny gave us after lunch.\u00a0 I slept in a chair without a headrest. That was suspicious.After lunch, I thought perhaps I had recovered.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\">I got on Sue after lunch and after one big flinch, it was all over for me.\u00a0 I was an emotional strung out mess.\u00a0 I got off.Jenny got on Sue and stood around on her the rest of the clinic.\u00a0 Every now and then as\u00a0Jenny was talking, she gestured at something and Sue\u00a0startled the opposite way.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\">There were times when it appeared horses were coming straight at Sue. Sue tensed, but didn&#8217;t bolt away.I noted that it doesn&#8217;t look all that bad.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\">What I was feeling all morning was the impact of huge bursts of electrical charged fear drilled into to me.\u00a0 It\u00a0had been\u00a0multiple\u00a0instant Right Brain and then\u00a0back to\u00a0left brain for Sue and I.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\">After the clinic I could hardly drag myself out to the trailer.\u00a0 Upon reaching home, I could barely drag my body to and from the barn and then walk to the house.\u00a0 I was more exhausted than I remember for a long time. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\">You know what it was&#8230;it was the adrenalin that shot through my body all those times on that day.\u00a0 I had so many right brained episodes that it\u00a0used up\u00a0all my energy and then some.\u00a0 That&#8217;s why I teared up&#8230;my body was drained of energy.\u00a0 I was drained at noon!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\">I would hate to feel like that a lot.\u00a0 I surely sympathize with horses and humans that have to go through that.\u00a0 It&#8217;s just hell.
