Sulley Ice Rescue

Sulley is Alive!

Sulley fell into the lake today. He was far enough from the shore, that I didn’t consider going into the ice to get him. He was not far from the dock. I got GSD Emma into house. I figured she would try to go out on ice and “play” with Sulley. I had no idea what to do. I did think about hiding in the house till he died. I looked at a heavy lawn chair and got the idea to use it to stab and break the ice. It flew out of my hands when I made my first stab. It did land close beside him.
I went to garage to find something heavy. I had no idea what would work. Meanwhile, he was trying claw his way out of the ice. I knew he was going to die. How long does it take before they freeze to death and go under?
I saw a concrete block at the garage. With my new super human strength, I carried the block to the lake and got on the dock. I threw the block between Sulley and the dock. He managed to move close to the dock. I got down on my belly with one arm free to reach. I anchored my other arm around the wooden beam of a bench. Sulley made it to where I could reach him. He has a good fitting collar without a name tag. I had put on another collar that had a tag with my phone number.
I had gloves on. I managed to get hold of both collars. I could keep his head out of the water with one arm.
I maneuvered my shoulders over the edge so both arms were usable.
I heaved him up on the dock with my new super human strength, one hand around collars and the other on his bottom. All 4 legs were on wood. I let go and managed to heave myself up on my 2 legs.
There is a metal grate between the dock and the earth. The holes are too wide for a dog’s feet. I got hold of his collars again and heaved him from dock to earth.

Both of us were able to walk to house. He was violently shivering. He occasionally stopped to lick at his front feet. I yelled at him. We made it into house. I got a towel and rubbed him.
He went to his dog bed and laid down, still shivering. Luckily we have a nearby space heater. I aimed it at him full blast.
He is able to walk around with some tottering on his back legs. I figure they were frozen
I ended up gasping for air. I became able to talk to tell the spouse what happened.
Next was coughing exactly like you choke on water going down your windpipe. Coughing lasted a while.
I’m at Grits and Grace Restaurant drinking Jack Daniels bourbon and Pepsi! That was after I polished off the last half glass of their dry wine.
