Today was a great day with Fancy. I mostly rode with the controlling rein higher than the supporting rein. I kept my hands low and might have kept them contained in a small space rather than using my full arm extension to turn. (I’m starting to talk like Tom Dorrance in his book. Sorry.) Fancy’s vet chiropractic appointment last Friday was the best ever!
Gasp, we did flying lead changes during the lesson today. It’s been a long long time since that happened for me.
I watched Erin do many many flying changes last Monday. I tried unsuccessfully during the lesson and the next day. Erin rode Fancy Wednesday and Thursday.
The last lead change request going to the left was difficult. She got the front leg switched, but not the back. With Erin’s instruction, I kept asking for the back leg to switch, and three fourth of the arena, it did. It was Miller Time (beer ad in a long ago forgotten era). I got off, rubbed her and loosened the cinch. We stood out of the way watching the other riders take their turns.
My good friend and pal, Fancy nipped my hand. We had a four second discussion about that before the lesson for the other horses was finished.
Did I emerge as the lead mare?
