Oh Wow Fancy

Today was a great day with Fancy. I mostly rode with the controlling rein higher than the supporting rein. I kept my hands low and might have kept them contained in a small space rather than using my full arm extension to turn. (I'm starting to talk like Tom Dorrance in his book. Sorry.) Fancy's vet chiropractic appointment last Friday was the best ever! Gasp, we did flying lead changes during the lesson today. It's been a long long time since that happened for me. I watched Erin do many…

Human Body Fail Fall

It was about five weeks ago that the hay bale twine tripped me and made me fall hard on my left hip. All the muscles in my upper front, inner and outer and thigh were ripped. Riding was initially painful and slowly got better. I limped, putting weight on my right leg. Different thigh muscles made themselves known during this time. They all had a voice, a painful left leg voice at different times. A few days ago a pain spot started up on my knee...on the other side of…

Loose Horse! OMG It’s Fancy

We were astounded and blown away. The arena footing is river bed sand, one of the best footings you can have in an arena. It’s the Little Things that Matter

I put Fancy's halter on and lead her somewhere. Nope, she passes and leads me. I get the best of Fancy and lead her somewhere. I stop, she doesn't. She passes me. I lead Fancy somewhere and stop. Fancy goes to investigate something interesting, like the manure tub in the arena. I get into my play position in front of her head an prepare to ask her to move. Before I make my "ask", she looks around to see if anything is more interesting than I am. She circles around…

Mare Reputation

People say: "I have a crazy mare. Crazy mare. When she is in heat, she is horrible. I can't do anything with this mare." People like me laugh quietly inside when we read or hear this statement. We assume those people know nothing about handling horses. We have never had a mare like that. We love our mares. We choose to have mares! My confession on the alter of horsemanship: "I am sorry about my assumption." Fancy is a left brain exuberant extrovert with hormonal pain problems. She resembles the…

Vaught Clinic-Before Story- May 13-14, 2020

I took my truck and trailer to the car wash the day before traveling to the clinic. I have a white truck again! On the way home from the car wash, my radio gave me static. Huh? What's wrong with my radio? As I got closer to home, I looked at my antenna. I didn't look at the antenna. I looked where it should be. Damn! There is no antenna. Cursed truck. I parked truck and trailer at home and hurriedly drove my car to the car wash. My antenna…
