Lucky Star and Wed Group Lesson Night at Pine Dell Farm

Lucky Star is enrolled in Wednesday night group lesson with Karen Moulis at Pine Dell Farm. Group lessons are great experience for horses and people too.  For one thing, horses get used to other horses zipping around going all directions.  When Lucky Star and I go into the show ring, he'll think it's pretty tame compared to a group lesson. Lucky Star keeps getting better and better every time I ride him.  He had all the impulsion I wanted tonight.  He did everything asked of him and he was one…

Lucky Star and Susan First Ride

We had a five day Natural Solutions Horse Camp with Tony and Jenny Vaught on 3/26 thru 3/30.  We did groundskill tasks in the morning and in the afternoon, we were ready to ride. Gulp.  Although I wasn't nervous about riding Lucky Star for the first time, I was nervous.  There was nothing to worry about, but it was my first time to ride him.  I just wanted to get the first ride started and feel comfortable. After I get that "comfortable feeling" on a new horse, I'm ready to…

Daisy Mae AKA Sheyna

Does this horse look like Sage?  I've been struck many times on how Sheyna looks like Sage. But, I thought it was a grey mare kind of thing. I got a look at her registration papers today.  Her real name is Rich Daisy Mae.  Her grandfather is Sage's sire!  She came from R.L. Lewis of Butler, Mo. That's where Sage and Velvet came from.  I'll have to look at Sage's papers to see what else they have in common.  And, here's something else.  On her dam's mother's side comes the…

Who Needs a Young Snorty Green Horse?!

Velvet was a been-there-done-that snorty horse today.  You know that long rumble snort that could mean, "I'm getting ready to take the saddle and sky rocket to another universe" snort. I don't remember Velvet snort-rumbling in a long time.  Then she became a show horse and arched her neck.  Oh, I bet she and I were a gorgeous sight. The cause - two adorable mini horses running in a pasture. Velvet and I were out alone at Pine Dell and we decided to take a stroll off the property.  What…

Do I Look Over 60!

Finally the stars aligned in the sky and I was able to ride with a friend at Holden Lake Park.  Turns out, it's easy to find, pretty flat and beautiful.  It's only fifteen miles from where I live. Velvet and I had arrived earlier and were saddled and ready to go.  My friend pulled up and was busy getting her horse ready to ride.  Velvet was ready to ride and I was standing beside the little gravel road in the park. A car pulls up and stops beside me.  A…
