Nova’s Notebook – Lead Changes-Rollbacks-Slide Stops

Nova and I rode in a Fox Trotter Reining and Western Horsemanship Clinic with Tony and Jenny Vaught this afternoon in Stockton.  Four hours of lead changes, flying change attempts, roll backs, stops, backs and leg yielding is enough she sez This is Nova hanging up her hat for the day!  Enough!

Nova’s Notebook – Nameless Rider Mount/Dismount

Ahh, thank goodness for warm weather and daylight savings. My after work trail riding has started. The person I ride with, forever to be nameless, was quite entertaining on our first after work ride. Her horse got a big branch caught in his tail. When that happened last year, he panicked. I was riding clean up tonight and spotted the instant he got the branch in his tail. She slid off and removed the offending thing. Getting back on for us without a mounting block is quite a chore. Luckily,…

Nova’s Notebook – Humbling Trailer Loading!

Yep, that's what horses do! I took Nova on her on her first trail ride today at James A Reed Park.  Hope was kind enough to ride with me.  When we first arrived at the park, a woman came over ..enthralled with Nova's beauty.  Of course I bragged about her just a smidgeon.  For the record, Nova did great on the trail.  Hope and Jazz were good partners to start my trail riding experience with Nova! The woman was still there when we got back..still enthralled. So, I couldn't resist bragging. I have…

Nova’s Notebook – The Hat

What a good time I had tonight.  I rode two horses at Pine Dell tonight.  That means I got up early enough that I could work 8 hours and still have time to trailer my horses to Pine Dell and ride. That's a big day for me. Good times with good people! I came home so happy, whipped up my gormet peanut butter sandwich..after tearing the moldy corner off the bread.  I mixed the dog's fasttrak supplement in my water bottle and had a great meal.  But enough of my great…

Nova – My First Ride

Nova has been in training with Jenny for a while. I rode Nova for the 1st time today in Jenny's 11:00 lesson. I managed to keep my butterflies in formation upon first getting on. I might have been somewhat relaxed when we stopped riding. I haven't rode a young horse since JR was young about 6 years ago! Wow! Is she ever nice. Nova is Sage's daughter. Sage is a lesson horse at Pine Dell and lives in the pasture horse. Sage was in the arena when I took my…

Nova’s Notebook – Being Ridden!

Nova in training with Jenny - November 2007 Three year old Nova - in training.  These are the first pictures I've seen of Nova being rode.  What a beautiful picture of a beautiful horse on a chilly fall day in Fair Play, Mo.  She is being rode by Jenny Vaught.
