It’s Complicated – Fancy

Fancy has won the title of Most Intriguing Horse awarded by Erin Patterson.  She argues.  She argues when the human tries to get the bridle on. She argues when the human body tells her to speed up.  But after arguing, she speeds up and speeds up and speeds up!  Gradually Erin is getting less and less arguing and smooth gaits.  Occasionally, the ride goes bad and the only request she will obey is to canter.

Earlier this week, I rode Fancy.  I had a horrid horrid time getting her bridle on.  I had brought out a bucket of her grain.  It was to be a bribe andfor allowing the bit to go into her mouth.  It was a disaster. She saw the bucket.  We argued.  Her thought was to get to the bucket of grain whatever it takes.  She has strong willpower.  I finally won, but it was an ugly win.

Fancy has had her second chiropractic adjustment with Dr. Randy. Her right hip had gone “out” again, but not as bad as her first time.  Her poll and lower neck were “out”.   Erin rode her the next two days.  Fancy did amazing.  She didn’t argue much about getting the bridle bit in her mouth the first day.  The second day, she didn’t argue at all about the bridle and she did many transitions for Erin without any argument.  We’ve never seen this Fancy!

Go figure this:  When Fancy feels discomfort, she is not a stoic horse.  I wonder what she will be like for my first ride this week.
