We have had a lot of moisture here in the Kansas City Chiefs Kingdom. We had rain and snow. If the ground is not frozen, it is mushy or muddy.
Day 2 of Fancy’s return to her fantastic boarding stable. She has switched turnout pastures and is now living with her famous half brother, Louie.
I turned into the driveway seeking first sight of Fancy. Standing in a muddy area, I saw the golden gelding with frosty white mane and tail. There was not a speck of mud on his glorious golden body. Where was Fancy? My eyes found her and I gasped. Fancy was the same color as the mud she was laying in. She was laying in mud! Scream! I saw a few inches of her creamy hair. I saw massive amount of body covered mud. My thought about riding her today plunged into hopeless.
The mission changed into liberty or online games. The day before, we had an excellent experience in our liberty games. Fancy is very special.
We got to play at liberty and we ended up with her jumping over barrels at a canter. She runs to me from afar. She walks with me, her head next to my body. She does a large figure eight at a canter.
When we paused to rest after she did something fabulous, I brushed and combed the mud from where the saddle would sit. The wet mud was on her chest where the girth goes.
We worked on bridling. She is resistant to having a bit placed into her mouth. I use treats and patience to get the bit into her mouth. We did it twice.
Heck. Fancy is ready to ride! I beat the mud! I saddled her up. She stands in place now while I get the pad and then the saddle from her tack room. She no longer has to be tied if the saddle is near. We have worked on ground tying.
The riding experience is coming along. We have not yet bonded in our riding relationship. She is a horse that needs daily riding to progress. The recent snow, rain and polar vortex cold hinder our riding relationship.
I’m having a great time with Fancy! She makes me very happy.
