The Longest Ride

This is it:  Cisco's first horse show.  His human birth mommy, Brenda, came all the way from Virginia to see him.  She has not seen him since he was sold some years ago.   Brenda's friends and I held her hands as we walked down the aisle to Cisco's stall.  Brenda melted when she first saw him.  Cisco's eyes were wide open when she walked into the stalled and rubbed him.  He was very surprised to see her again, especially in this big huge arena foreign place.  Brenda loved on…

Precious Yellow

My  yellow raincoat has been missing around a year.  It was on a hanger in a store when we first met.  It started out life as a very expensive name brand wondrous water proof  soft raincoat.  You didn't meet many like this in the early 90's.  I met it before I had horses and when I used to shop for fun.  I can't imagine going to shopping centers as having fun since moving to the country and having horses. No matter.  I met "the yellow" on a sale hanger.  I…

Lovable Lucky Star

Gone is the "Horse of No".    The Horse of No really has left the building.  Lucky Star has become willing to go!  Last year he was coming along well except for bristling when I asked for the canter.  The canter  was bracy and stiff because Lucky was protesting having to go at such speed and effort.  It wasn't a pleasant experience for the rider as there was a different canter going on with each side of Lucky Star.  He was leading the canter with one leg in the front…

Lucky Star Fun

Cisco is away for training with Tony and Jenny Vaught.  This makes Lucky Star the winner of nearly every day riding.  This is our second every day.  Away we went to the arena. I took off Lucky's halter and we are "at liberty".   Lucky and I drug the barrels out into the arena....one at a time.  I set up the barrel and secretly placed a treat on top.  Lucky and I went at least 20 feet away.  We stopped and I gave him the sign to "go touch the…

Controlled Catastrophe

The day started like any day when I was to take a lesson with Erin Patterson.  Excitement to be learning on my horse journey with Cisco. Cisco and I arrived at the arena and got ready.  Jackie came to ride Tuff in the lesson with me.  She brought toys! After our gaiting lesson was done, Jackie went to get her first toy.  Regular people call it a tarp.  Horse people call it "A TARP"!  Jackie has a three year old Missouri Fox Trotter.  She bought the horse because of many…
