We Don’t FANCY Winter

It’s January. First it was going to be day and night long rain. Fancy would have to be in a stall day and night. After the rain, a huge snowstorm was predicted. Fancy would have to be in a stall day and night.

I elected to take her home so she could roam freely with the other two horses and have use of the run-in stalls and shed shelter. They have 24 hour access to hay in the barn and a round bale outside. It is almost horse heaven. It did rain. It did snow. It snowed 8 1/2 inches of wet snow and everyone lost power. Spouse and I moved to another boarding facility called a motel to wait out the power loss. Thankfully, the lake and pond had not frozen over as the temperature stayed above freezing. Horses had 24 hour access to lake water, thank the Lord!

Fancy is having a long vacation. I went into the barn and in a stall. Fancy came to me and pinned her ears. I was not holding a bucket of grain. Usually they pin their ears when trying to make you give them the grain. I figured out she was trying to get me to move out of the stall door so she could get inside and look for grain. Just so you know, I stood still in the stall doorway. It took about three seconds and her ears came forward along with her questioning extrovert mouth!

I won by doing nothing.

Clearly, I’m not the 100% leader of our partnership.

The climate last night was rain, plummeting temperatures, and sleet resulting in ice. Temperatures with high’s in the 20’s are just too much for me. Fancy and I will get back to our boarding home someday and our partnership quest will continue.

In the meantime, I’ve been reading from the vast amount horsemanship learning lessons in the Parelli Savvy Club website. The site been recently upgraded and has become a miraculous learning tool. The world has forty-five minutes of Tom Dorrance on tape. We now have over twenty years of Pat and Linda Parelli on tape. I’m blown away by the step by step written and video guides. You can learn everything you need to know (if you live to be 110 years old) about horsemanship on this web site.
