Where Am I?

You can only read this if you promise to buy a ticket and attend the Quality Hill Playhouse Christmas concert staring Superstar singer, Lauren Bradshaw.

Lauren’s mother, Apryl,  is my best friend.  On the day that her parents, Apryl, Mike and I were to attend the show, we decided where our evening dining place would be.  Oh my!  I recommended Costentino’s Market downtown Kansas City. Reservations were not required,  comfy seating was available and we could hear each other talk.  I hate those restaurants where you can’t hear your companions talk. Good Lordy, we had a huge choice of amazing food.  I cried while eating the chocolate cupcake with raspberries.  Apryl and I shared this most miraculous dark chocolate, chocolate pudding and raspberry cupcake.  We moaned.  We moaned at every bite.  We shared this cupcake and could not finish it.  I’ve never before been so trashed with  chocolate that I could not finish a dessert the size of a cupcake.  Neither Apryl nor I could finish it.  I still can’t believe it.

After our wondrous dinner, we toured Constentino’s wine selection.  We oooo’d.  We awwww’d.  I touched some of my favorite wines.  I even found the wine I had fallen in love with in northern California.  Hahn wine.  I touched the bottle lovingly.  It brought back great memories of a mot amazing wine tour with my good friend Mary.  Mary and I bought wine from the tour and tried to mail it back to Missouri.  Regular people can not send wine through any kind of shipping service.  How we got that wine back from California, through various good friends including one illegal transaction is a great story.  Just ask me someday.

Then we discovered Whiskey.  All the Whiskey you see on commercials and in books are sold at Costentino’s.  We touched the bottles and moaned.  Next we discovered famous rum, gin, vodka and more.  I am way behind on my drinking experience.

It was finally time to leave Costentino’s wine aisles and go to the theater.  I had some difficulty getting out of the parking garage.  Then I ran into some wrong direction one-way streets and streets closed for construction.  I also discovered that my phone was nearly dead and my plug in was not working.  Oh Lord.  Where is Quality Hill Playhouse and how do I get to it in the dark city streets of Kansas City!

I found another plug in, I got my phone plugged in and working.  By this time, I was actually nearing Quality Hill Playhouse when Siri came to life.  She told me I had only 800 feet to go.  I turned on 10th street and breathed a huge sigh of relief.  I might not be late after all.  Apryl and Mike might not kill me.

The parking garage is also on 10th street right next to the playhouse. I have parked in the garage before when attending concerts.  I wondered how disabled people were able to use this parking garage as we had never seen an elevator. We had just found the stairs our last visit.  We usually had to follow the same tortured winding path that the cars had to traverse to get out and in.  Oh My God!  I was in torture status winding up and up without seeing a parking space, All the other attendees had beat me to the parking garage.

I found a spot!  I might still make it before the theater went dark!  I parked next to a miracle sign that read, ELEVATOR!  Oh thrill!  I flew out of the car, into the elevator and pressed the 1st floor button.  The elevator told me I was on the 2nd floor.  I wound up all those levels and was only on the second floor?  humph.

The elevator descend at a speed of .0000001 mph.  The doors opened and I flew out.  I screeched to a halt in utter confusion.  I was on a different street. This was not 10th street. It was dark.  I did not see any buildings that I recognized.  I was alone in the middle of a block in the dark without a clue as to where I was.  There was no one walking on the street.   I had no one to ask.  I started walking and up ahead of me, I saw four policemen about to go inside a building.  I sped up.  Oh my, the building title was POLICE STATION.  Three of the men had made it through the door.  One was still outside when I yelled, “WHERE AM I?”  Time stopped.  The policeman turned towards me.  I could tell the other officers had also stopped and were just inside the door.  The policeman smiled and kindly said, “You are in Kansas City, Missouri.”

Oh Lord. What a stupid thing to have asked.  I then asked, “Where is the Quality Hill Playhouse?”.  The officers conferred.  My new friend turned toward me again and pointed the direction I had been going and said, it’s just around the corner.  Just turn left at the corner.  I said, “Thank You and mumbled something about an elevator dumping me.  I ran off and Holy Lordy, there were the  glass windows of Quality Hill Playhouse. I was looking in at the people standing in the cafe lobby. Cry of Relief!  I was found!

I burst into the door, appearing to be calm.  I looked into the theater and hardly anyone was seated!  I found Mike and a minute later found Apryl.  They didn’t appear to be all that worried about my disappearance into the void.  We got seated and people even were seated later than us.

It was the best Christmas Concert ever!  Quality Hill is at 10th and Broadway.  The damn elevator dumps you midway between 10th and 11th streets on Central.

scream!
